ΨΦ is the name of a club that I have pipe dreams of opening where the walls would be projector screens with constant hyperdelic style visuals, and the music would be loud and overstimulating.

I'm fascinated by the cyberdelic movement of the 80's and 90's; that old optimism that technology would truly democratize us, though in this current corpo-oligarchic landscape, we've long been disillusioned of that idea. Hedonism is a pretty short sighted philosophy, but we all deserve to taste the fruits of life at one point or another before we have to return to reality.

A few of these tunes were made with hardware instruments sequenced using trackers, mainly Renoise, which is one of the best and cheapest DAW's out there in my opinion. The one drawback with it is that I had to learn to count in hexadecimal to use the effects column.

Early tracker music from the Amiga and DOS demo scenes were very inspirational. Space Debris by Captain, Hybrid Song by Quazar and Sanxion, Stardust Memories by Jester, and Two Steps by Siren and Straylight are just a few tracks to look up if you want to go down that rabbit hole, which I highly recommend.

For some of these tracks, I was able to rent a Moog Grandmother or a Korg MS20 from the local library. I hope more library’s out there are making tools otherwise out of reach accessible to their communities.
